Do's

1.     Do use coordinating colors when designing a page.

2.     Do use legible fonts.

3.     Do make background colors the same throughout your website.

4.     Do use solid backgrounds.

5.     Do use same navigation buttons/links on each page of your site.

6.     Do use similar size fonts, no very large fonts.

7.     Do keep text color the same throughout the site.

8.     Do keep in mind different browser types/sizes when designing a site.

9.     Do keep frames in web pages limited.

10. Do keep site simple.

11. Do identify your audience.

12. Do spell check.

13. Do use smaller graphics as they load quicker.

14. Do aim to load the web page in 7-10 seconds.

15. Do keep page from having to scroll horizontally.

 Don’ts

1.     Don’t use frames if you can avoid it.

2.     Don’t use animated “gif” images.

3.     Don’t make pages too long.

4.     Don’t use large texts.

5.     Don’t use very large images/graphics.

6.     Don’t use different navigation styles on different pages within the site.

7.     Don’t use bright colored fonts with equally bright backgrounds.

8.     Don’t use pictures as backgrounds.

9.     Don’t use background music.

10. Don’t apply a hit counter to your web site.

11. Don’t use “Under Construction” Signs or notices.

12. Don’t text or images from another web site without crediting or asking the site first.

13. Don’t use many different font types on your site.

14. Don’t complicate the page.

15. Don’t center justify all text.

16. Don’t use flashing or blinking text.

17. Don’t use bright colored or distracting backgrounds.

18. Don’t ignore competition.

19. Don’t use “Welcome to My Site”

20. Don’t use off set links on your page, if you need to, set the link to open into a new window.
